Essilor Vision Foundation Continues Expansion in 2015

In its seventh year of operation, Essilor Vision Foundation (EVF) is on track to nearly double its original goal set for 2015 of 52,000 pairs of glasses dispensed  to those in need. In 2014, EVF, through mobile vision clinics, school vision days and Kids Vision Fests, provided 175,000 vision screenings, performed more than 32,000 comprehensive eye exams and dispensed 40,000 pairs of glasses to children and teens in need, all at no cost to families. This year, at the 2015 Special Olympic World Games in Los Angeles, Essilor Vision Foundation joined the Healthy Athletes Opening Eyes Initiative to provide vision screenings, prescription glasses, sunglasses and sports goggles to athletes. As part of the World Games, the Foundation sponsored the GenUin Social Impact Summit by Generation United, along with two Filipino students, Sashi and Brina. The students presented a program proposing an eye fair in the Philippines to bring awareness to the importance of corrected vision through entertainment. “2015 has been a great year for Essilor Vision Foundation and Kids Vision for Life as we’ve continued to expand our program among new audiences reaching even more people in need,” said Bob...

Essilor Employees Pledge To Raise $1 Million

In commemoration of World Sight Day, Essilor employees today launched a three-year, $1-million fundraising  campaign benefiting the Essilor Vision Foundation, which will provide vision screenings, eye exams and eyeglasses free of charge to thousands of schoolchildren who cannot afford them otherwise. Research shows that without proper vision care, children may face lifelong struggles with literacy, low self-esteem, unemployment, poverty and crime. “Approximately one in four American children has an uncorrected vision problem – and the number can climb much higher in inner-city communities. Unfortunately, research suggests that only 1 in 9 children are wearing glasses today,” said Stephen Shawler, president of the Essilor Vision Foundation. “So for those of us involved with the Essilor Vision Foundation, every day is World Sight Day. Our clear-cut mission is simply knowing that providing new glasses to a child can have a profound effect on their life … not only academically in the short term, but socially in the long term.” Essilor Vision Foundation’s mission is “to eliminate poor vision and its lifelong consequences.” In addition to providing vision services, the...
