See & Do Good

See & Do Good

What do we mean by SEE & DO GOOD? We want to treat our environment with respect, which is why we are constantly on the look-out for new ways to incorporate eco- consciousness in the neubau eyewear universe. In short: SEE & DO GOOD stands for our efforts to respect the environment and to enjoy aesthetics at the same time. Conscious consumption and forward-looking production are the focus, and it starts with the material of our frames, but also affects the material of our spectacle case, cleaning cloths, our POS material, as well as the support of social projects empowering nature in urban surroundings. With our models Bob, Valerie and Dani we have premiered the use of a material called naturalPX. Two thirds of the raw materials used in its production are renewable and organically sourced. Apart from utilizing this eco-friendly polymer we take great care in creating as little waste as possible. We can achieve this by using ultra-modern production methods that help us mold all the different parts of a neubau eyewear frame into perfect shape. Even the accouterments of our products have been manufactured with an eye on utility and ecology. Apart from the case which is manufactured...

It’s in the materials …

It’s in the materials …

We always want to keep improving; our aim is to make spectacles that don’t just measure up to aesthetic and practical needs, but also to ecological standards. From high labor standards to innovative manufacturing methods, there is a lot that we have accomplished already. And yet we are striving for more and looking forward to the achievements, both big and small, in the journey ahead. natural PX is a highly developed eco-friendly polymer used in the manufacture of our spectacle frames beginning in April 2017. naturalPX is made from organically sourced and renewable primary products, as 65% of our naturalPX is produced from an oil extracted from the seeds of castor oil plants, also known as “the miracle tree”. This way we are supporting our environment’s natural cycle. As the high quality of our products is of the utmost importance to us, this material also has to live up to the same renowned standards of excellence as the materials we have been using until now: light in weight, super flexible and sturdy, without any limitations in terms of coloration – allowing for the creation of deep, vibrant colors as well as those with a transparent crystal clear finish. The...

The exhibition is an homage to American opticians – celebrating the people, optical shops and landscapes they call home. Timed to Vision Expo East, American Eyes, by Italian artist Gianluca Vassallo, is a journey of images representing a cross-section of America. This is not the America we all know from glossy magazines, but the real one, sincere and bewitching. The thought-provoking images by the artist Gianluca Vassallo show large expanses of cultivated fields, rural villages and characteristic optical shops where opticians work with love. Vassallo’s photos are extremely evocative, telling stories and emotions in a way that words can’t. The eight Safilo accounts depicted in the exhibit are from Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York and were selected for their unique locations and high regard for the Elasta and Emozioni collections which have filled an important niche...

Launched in April 2016, the first-ever tutoring project for the eyewear world – by Safilo in association with L’Uomo Vogue – has reached its conclusion. The finalists of the three competition categories are young creative talents who reinvented the eyewear frame with originality while respecting the competition’s guidelines, i.e. to blend heritage with innovation. They had the opportunity to show their work in a special exhibition held in Safilo’s Via Manzoni showroom to coincide with the Milan Fashion Week and MIDO. Four winners (two came equal first) and four models of creativity-packed eyewear frames: Zixin Yang wins the Masterpiece award for the most artistic, original frame. She presented a very sophisticated design in product terms, almost disengaged from its actual function, and with a fascinating storytelling which reflects the vision of not only a true artist but also a fine designer. The Capsule Collection award goes to Nirmit Gupta and Pritam Paraye, a creative duo who impressed the jury for their fun, contemporary design already prepared in a range of materials and colors, making it particularly appealing and virtually ready for production development.
